Cleanroom VR

Recreating a real-world industrial environment for a VR training experience.
I worked on this environment together with Daniel Bösze during my time at Innerspace (https://www.innerspace.eu/). I was responsible for most of the interior components of the machine and all the smaller props. Furthermore, I contributed to the materials, lighting and shading.
The model was created of photo references only. We did not have access to CAD or similar data. The workflow was to set up several image planes and match the 3D models to them. As the machine is intended to be animated, we had to accurately recreate even hardly visible areas. This was a huge challenge. We used a mid poly workflow with bevels and custom weighted normals to achieve proper shading. The highly reflective surfaces don’t show any visible poly edges or shading issues even when looked at close in VR.
The environment runs in VR on 90 FPS and with 8xAA and is part of Unity’s “Top 2020 Trends: Enterprise AR & VR" eBook.
