Venice

This is a personal project.

Inspired by the vivid and dynamic images of Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal), I tried to reinterpret his work transferring it to a new medium. It was important for me to rather create a scene than a single image. I didn’t want to copy his work but rather reinterpret it in my own way and by doing so capture the spirit of his images. One major difference between his work and mine is that I didn’t stay true to the location and I changed everything around the cathedral as I found the best for my composition.
The most challenging parts of this project were the amount of textures and assets I had to handle in one single scene. The other big problem was the giant depth of the scene. The houses at the backside of the image are about 3 km away, while the closest elements are just a few centimeters away from the camera and all this depth is connected by the giant surface of the ocean.
